Jávea proposes extending the suspension of tourist licences for appartments, but this will not affect single-family homes

The Jávea Town Hall continues to adjust its policy on tourist accommodations (VUT). The Urban Planning Committee has approved a proposal to extend for six more months the suspension of apartments and flats intended for holiday rentals.

What does the measure mean?

The suspension applies only to apartments. The main problems with this type of property are:

For this reason, areas such as the historic center, the Port, and Arenal will remain under this limitation.

Villas and townhouses, an exception

The new development is that the suspension will not apply to single-family homes such as villas, detached houses, and townhouses. According to the study, this type of property does not create the same conflicts because they do not have shared spaces and target a different market than apartments. In addition, they contribute to extending the tourist season and sustaining employment in residential areas such as Cabo de la Nao.

The sector in numbers

Currently, there are 4,321 registered tourist rentals in Jávea, compared to 6,161 in August 2024, representing a reduction of 1,840 properties.

Tourism Policy in Jávea

With this measure, Jávea aims to find a balance between promoting tourism and ensuring the right to housing and neighborhood coexistence.
